The NEW ‘Electromagnetic Field (EMF)’ Directive 2013/35/EU
– ARE YOU READY!!!

12th August 2015

It will soon become law that employers are responsible for their employees with respect to minimum requirements for exposure from Physical Agents (Electromagnetic Fields). You have until July 2016 to ensure you are compliant with the directive!

Employers within the EU will have to produce a ‘Risk Assessment’ providing evidence of levels determined by measurements or calculations to ensure they meet the specified limits and are not exposing their employees to any risks. It is then the responsibility of the employer to take any appropriate action to avoid and/or reduce the risks. A risk assessment containing the evidence will have to be documented and held for evaluation should the need arise.

The Directive sets limits for exposure to electric, magnetic, and electromagnetic fields with frequencies between 0 Hz and 300 GHz. These limits are generally based on the recommendations of ICNIRP, the International Commission for Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection.

How can AR UK help you!

We can supply cost effective measurement equipment that will allow you to perform your own measurements enabling you to easily determine if you meet the requirements of the directive. You will be able to perform measurements at any time enabling you to ensure employees are safe.

Alternatively

Using our own equipment we can come to your premises and perform the measurements required and provide you with a report on our findings. We can also provide you with the necessary training to be able to perform these measurements yourself.

Using an AR Safety Meter could not be easier. By selecting the measuring probe for the frequency range of interest, the meter provides you with a simple to understand level that refers directly to the guidelines to check whether you comply or fail the stated limits. These can be a snap shot level or a maximum/average reading over time to determine if levels are variable.

Directive 2013/35/EU refers to the European Occupational Safety Directive 2013/35. Official Title ‘Directive 2013/35/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 26 June 2013 on the minimum health and safety requirements regarding the exposure of workers to the risks arising from physical agents (electromagnetic fields) (20th individual Directive within the meaning of Article 16(1) of Directive 89/391/EEC) and repealing Directive 2004/40/EC’.

Member States are required to bring into force any laws, regulations and/or administrative provisions necessary to comply with the Directive by 01 July 2016.
